Slippery Sidewalks

I borrowed pictures from a few friends today because today was absolutely beautiful but while they were out taking pictures of the snowy wonderland, I was slip-sliding my way down the street to the subway station to make it to my badminton club on time.  The sidewalks are not really cleared here, the snow is just packed down by people's feet and then gravel is sprinkled around to limit the slipping.  It actually works pretty well but I definitely feel the need to concentrate when I am walking.  I am constantly amazed by the Swedes, who run, walk,  bike, and push strollers without breaking their stride or paying any attention to the slippery surfaces.  I have never seen anyone fall!  Hopefully, I am not the first!  We have had an additional 1/2" or so of snow each day without any melting going on, so we are getting a nice base amount.  There is a ski slope in the city of Stockholm, as well as lots of areas to cross country ski, so I am now starting to see people just walking down the street or getting on buses, carrying their skis.

I am eager to go cross country skiing but need to figure out where to go and where to rent skis!
I had a scary phone call today.  The Swedish police called me to talk about Max!  The detective was quick to assure me that nothing had happened to Max and he is not in any trouble.  Unfortunately, however, one of his friends at school was telling Max and a few other friends about the physical abuse that he receives at home.  The boys convinced this poor kid to talk to the school counselor who then reported it to the police.  Max and his friends will now need to go to the police station on Saturday to give a deposition.  Scary stuff for a bunch of 12 year olds!
