Konungens namnsdag

Looking at the deep freeze temperatures back home in Indiana when I get up in the morning, certainly make me feel better about whatever we have to face here!  Once again, we had a pretty nice day.  The sun made a very valiant effort to come out and temperature hovered around 30.  During my morning dog walking and grocery run, I noticed that Swedish flags were out and flying today.  This is pretty unusual around here.  They are not flown daily like in the US.  When I got home, I googled the cause and found out that today is the name day for the king, or Konungens namnsdag.  Name days are often celebrated around Europe, and Sweden is no exception. Name day celebrations were considered to be more Christian than birthday celebrations in olden times.  Unfortunately, when looking at the Swedish name day calendar, only Max (Feb 1) has a name day in our family.

This afternoon, I headed out to a nearby park where they have turned the soccer fields into an ice rink.   I met up with a couple of friends and spent the afternoon ice skating!  We had a wonderful time until the rink became over run with school kids in their PE class.  We then decided it would be much safer and warmer to sit in a cafe having fika, rather than getting knocked down by very confident 6 year olds!

On our way home, we passed this sign on a church!  It must be true, God must love Stockholm as much as we do!
