After doing a quick house call this morning to make sure a friend's young daughter did not have an orthopedic injury that needed a doctor's attention, I buckled down to really study my Swedish. It is just so easy to NOT speak Swedish here that we are all being quite lazy about learning (some, namely me, more than others). I did some serious studying today and even listened to some CD's to help with pronunciation.
Some k's are pronounced like "sh", so it really gets confusing. One thing that I learned today really amused me... I have seen multiple signs in various places with this word... "kinesiska" Now, I know that jumping to conclusions about what a foreign word means is never a good idea, but many words in Swedish are so close to the English word that we often can guess. So, in my head, when I have seen this word, I have been assuming that it means something about kinesiology, something related to the physical therapy world. Ha! I found out today that it is the Swedish word for Chinese!
While heading out this afternoon for the usual errands, groceries, dog walk and fika with a friend, I couldn't help but take pictures of some of the beautiful buildings that I pass every day. The architecture here is just fantastic!
Tonight, I was thrilled to be able to make a real cheesecake! This was one thing that we could never make in France because the ingredients were just not available. The graham crackers that I used for my crust are not really graham crackers but they worked well enough that the kids and I declared this a success!
