We left a snowy Sweden behind yesterday afternoon, flew into Lisboa and then rented a car and drove to Faro.
We have rented a very cute little house in old town Faro
and after a good night's sleep, we ventured out immediately this morning to soak up every bit of sunshine that we could possibly get!
It only reached a high of 60 degrees but the blue sky and nonstop sunshine could not be beat. We were even able to eat our lunch outside at a little cafe, in short sleeves!
We wandered the old town area for a couple of hours, just enjoying the architecture, sights and sounds, and the loaded orange and lemon trees before we took a boat tour out to two islands.
The archipelago around Faro creates a series of channels and bird life sanctuaries depending on the tide. We were able to spend 30 minutes on each of the islands of Ilha Deserta and Ilha da Farol after a 45 minute boat ride. The former houses just one restaurant and stretches of sandy beaches while the latter, actually houses a little old town of 3000 people in the summer, and many empty houses in the winter. Both were gorgeous!
We are now enjoying a movie, sushi, and a fire in the fireplace.... Missing Quincy on this first family vacation without him... But, life is good.
