Hallwylska Museet

We again had some little peeks of sunshine today so everyone was feeling happy and energetic!  This afternoon, I went on a guided tour with my Out and About Club.  We had a private tour of the Hallwylska Museet.

This palace is the former private home of Wilhelmina and Walther von Hallwyl.  Wilhelmina was the only heir to her father's vast timber fortune and appeared to just devote her life to spending money like water!  The house was designed by Isak Gustaf Clason, who was given absolutely no budget restrictions!  The house was completed in 1898 and was a winter home for Wilhelmina and Walther and their 4 daughters.  Wilhelmina was a "collector" which appeared to us to just mean that she was a ridiculously wealthy and organized hoarder!  She had collections of things everywhere and always intended the house to be a museum upon her death, and left completely intact.  It has been a museum now since 1938.  Beautiful and very interesting!

The "attic" of the home houses temporary art and/or fashion exhibits.  Today, it featured a hat exhibit.  All kinds of interesting hats!  Made even more interesting by a British friend telling us about the "fascinator" craze in England.
After a quick fika with friends (carrot cake and coffee for me - carrot cake is served EVERYWHERE here, I love it!), I headed over to school to view the Art and Expression Exhibit that the middle school students were putting on.  Calvin takes art class, so he had some photographs and sculpture on display.

The kids' school is in a 6 story building on top of one of the highest hills in Stockholm.  From the art room, at the very top of the school, the views are wonderful!  Late afternoon was a bit overcast and the old, old windows are a bit wavy, but you can get the idea from my photo.
