Every Swede in the city was outside, soaking up the sun and getting as much exercise as they could. It was fantastic.
Max had a friend spend the night last night but as soon as Jacques went home, we took off. Tabitha sat on the board walk and wandered the streets of old town with friends while the rest of us went on our first bike ride of Stockholm. We have been nervous about the urban riding despite the fact that there are well defined bike lanes and many, many people ride around the city. We decided to just made the short urban ride to the park at the end of our street and then enjoy the freedom of hiking and bike trails where we didn't have to worry about traffic. Our bikes need a little bit of love and attention after sitting outside all winter long but they were in surprisingly good shape.
We made it easily to Haga Park and joined the throngs of people out walking, riding, pushing strollers, running and just enjoying the outdoors. The weather was warm (we were sweating as we truly overdressed), the views were gorgeous, the hills were manageable and we loved it all.
In true European style, the park surprised us with a palace where the crown princess lives, a grotto, the Copper Tents of the Royal families of old, a Turkish pavilion, a Chinese pagoda, a butterfly garden, and a Temple of the Echo.
I wanted to take more pictures but the boys preferred that we keep riding rather than stopping frequently.
Great day!
One side note.... Those of you that are familiar with Josh's difficult proportions can appreciate this... Josh has never, in his 43 years of life, had a dress shirt that really and truly fits him. They are all either too short in the sleeves, too big in the neck, too big in the trunk, or all three. Yesterday afternoon, we discovered a shirt shop where the shirts actually fit him off the rack! Gotta love the tall, thin Swedes!! We were both so excited that he bought two shirts and plans to buy more! Apparently Josh was born to be a Swede!
