The Swedish Language

This morning, I took note of just how quickly fall is approaching as the leaves have started falling and are rapidly changing color.  This is a dramatic change just in the 18 days since we arrived!  Very pretty though.  Yesterday and today were probably the warmest days that we have experienced so far.  It got up to 65 degrees and we finally shed a few layers of clothing.  I know that it won't last but it is nice for now!

After I took Coco for our morning walk, I headed out on a mission.  I wanted to find Företagarföreningen Söderhallarna.  This is the location for a shop that I had read would have many of the missing American grocery items that I have been looking for.  It is a perfect example of this crazy Swedish language, however!  Their words are so long and have so many consonants that it is just mind boggling!  Calvin and I are always counting letters and have come up with some doozies!  Here is another one that I have seen... Realisationsvinstbeskattning
Anyway, I followed my subway map and found the store that I was looking for!  The English Shop!  It was full of all sorts of goodies that I wanted, like molasses, light corn syrup, Crisco, almond powder, maple syrup, Bisquick, grape nuts, cream of tartar, gelatin, and chocolate chips... and all sorts of things that didn't want but it was fun to see, like Jello, pudding mix, Spam, pop tarts, cake mixes, brownie mixes.  Everything cost an absolute arm and a leg but if you need it for a recipe, you need it!  I think that a box of Jello was almost 5 dollars!  Can you imagine?

Anyway, I got what I needed and felt pretty good.  I then hit the sporting goods store to purchase a badminton racquet.  My badminton club meets on Thursday morning and I need to be ready to go!
When I got home, I started my Swedish lessons on Rosetta Stone.  I cannot emphasize enough how excellent everyone is in English around here but I do want a basic Swedish understanding and capability just in case!
The kids have a long school day on Tuesdays and Thursdays because of enrichment classes.  Calvin is taking chess while Max takes Swedish and Tabitha takes a high level math class.  Calvin also stays for speech and debate so no one gets home until after 4:30.  It is now 6:40 and they are still doing homework.  I think this means that they are finally real students in their school.  No more easy passes and lazy evenings because they are the new kids!
