Oh my gosh, this is going to sound awfully silly to you but I am finally feeling really relaxed. We finally, finally, finally got some of our most basic comforts figured out! First of all, our bed was just a mattress on the floor here with this crazy platform thing around it. Not only was it not that comfortable to get up and down off the floor but the platform frame was actually higher than the mattress so you were crawling up and over to get out. Anyway, Josh was able to fix it yesterday by adding legs to the bottom of the frame. Woo hoo!!! So much better! Then, our sheets haven't fit right at all because European mattresses are sized differently. We thought that we could put up with it but your fitted sheet coming off the mattress every night gets pretty uncomfortable. Swedish people don't really "do" fitted sheets but we were able to find one store that actually carried them that fit our mattress (only in white) so for a mere $250, we were able to walk away with sheets that actually fit our bed! Hurray!
A crock pot is another thing that is really not European. I was never able to find one in France and really didn't want to do without again. One definite benefit of living in the capital city is that we can often find things that would not be carried in a smaller town. So, I found and purchased a crock pot on Saturday!! Immediately made a big pot of beef stew yesterday and savored every bite!
We were also finally able to get our Slingbox to work!! This allows us to watch American television from our living room on our Swedish t.v. We can even DVR things so that we don't have to watch our favorite shows in the middle of the night! Love it! Now, I have to get caught up on the latest seasons on all of the shows that I recorded!
And, finally, the best news of all.. We were finally, finally, finally able to get our Swedish cell phones!! We can finally feel connected to people, use google to look up words that we don't know while we are in the grocery store for example, use GPS to find where we are going and how to get there, find our bus routes and most importantly of all, keep in touch with each other! Max even got one since he is on his own much more here in the city than he ever was in the US. Everyone is feeling very happy!
The leaves are falling very quickly around here so I am afraid that our pretty fall colors are not going to last long around here. In fact, I heard a prediction of some light snow on Thursday! Glad that I got to enjoy my morning walk today!
After getting the kids off to school, Coco out for her walk, a quick run to the grocery store, and Tabitha's friends set up with their maps and directions for the day, I headed to my first book club meeting. A great group of about 20 women! We ate, drank tea and discussed the book. Only about 5 of them were native English speakers but everyone read the book in English and discussed at great length. Some great insights from some very different perspectives! I loved it and look forward to next month!
