A Little Nordic History

Josh and I had a great dinner out last night.  We walked the 600 meters to Storstad. This is a great, trendy, restaurant/bar that we pass all of the time but have never been in.  It serves traditional Swedish food but sort of with a new age twist.  We really wanted to try some of the common Swedish foods that we often see.  So, we started with Toast Skagen as our appetizer.  Josh then opted for roast venison while I had the very traditional  raw salmon dish called gravlax.  Fantastic!  Potatoes are always served with everything in Sweden so Josh's were served au gratin while mine were in a creamy dill sauce.  We loved it all and will definitely go back!

Today, was yet another 55 degree day without even a wind to make us cold.  We herded up the kids and headed to my favorite island and park of Djurgården.  We took our time, strolling the trails and walking paths.  I think everyone in Stockholm decided to do the same thing.  It was a popular place today but still beautiful and fun.

We saw the row of Embassy ambassador homes across the water.

We also saw many of the beautiful buildings that are just sprinkled around.

Max did a little tree climbing, of course.

We then all decided to tour the Nordic Museum.  It was so interesting!  With our English audio guide, we learned all sorts of things about Swedish history, clothing, art, and traditions.  My favorite part was about how the Nordic holidays are celebrated and how their traditions have evolved.  Very cool!

Since daylight savings ended today and our clocks "fell back".  The sun set at 4:06 p.m.  Once it got dark, we decided to head home.  I then decided to join in with my fellow Swedes and light some candles to throw a little light in our lives!  I think that we will soon be doing a lot of this!

I don't know if I will have a chance to blog tomorrow.  We will be taking the sleeper train up to Luleå for fall break.  We won't arrive until early Tuesday morning.
I will do what I can to keep you posted!
