Legitimate Worries

Like several members of my family and my ancestors before me, I spend too much time worrying about things that I cannot control.  I realize that this is a waste of energy but find myself unable to stop.  So, Friday evening, rather than worry, I decided to just sit down, catch up on some television shows and drink a glass of wine.  Before I knew it, I had all sorts of things to worry about!  Quincy called about midnight to say that he had been in an accident on the freeway just outside of St Louis.  He was not hurt but when he slowed behind traffic in front of him, the person behind him did not slow and hit him in the rear.  This then caused him to hit the car in front of him so his car was damaged on both ends and he was unable to drive it.  He had never had an accident before so we exchanged multiple long phone calls to help him get everything straightened out, all of the information collected, the police called, the tow truck called, etc.  I was thrilled when my friend, Carol in St Louis, quickly agreed to go pick him up and to take him back to school.  Certainly made me feel better to have someone take care of him and to lay eyes on him for me.  Around 3 a.m., I finally made it to bed when I knew that Quincy was home and safe.  Around 4 a.m., Josh called to tell me that his flight from Newark to Stockholm suffered from engine trouble while in the air and had to turn around and go back to Newark!  They had one engine shut down and the other trying to shut down so they circled the Newark airport for 2 hours, trying to burn up enough fuel to land safely!  Fortunately, what could have been horribly tragic, turned into Josh getting home about 8 hours later than expected.  Crazy!!  Thank God, that someone was protecting both of my big guys on Friday night.  I also had Tabitha to worry about this week as someone broke into her dorm and fondled the girl in the room next to Tabitha during the night!  The girl had left her room door unlocked but there was definitely a building security breach that should not have happened.  Tabitha said that the university cracked down hard and fast and the problem should never happen again.  She also said that her neighbor is okay.  Whew!  And, finally, Max's knee is still causing him lots of trouble.  I think that all of his activity and his rapid growth this past year has caused him to develop Osgood Schlatters.  So, even though, he is not in constant pain, it is certainly tender and very easily irritated when he increases his activities.  So, we are going to spend this week just taking it easy, decreasing his running and jumping, skipping track and basketball and using ice and taking Motrin.
Calvin's the only one not causing me stress!
Yesterday was spent catching up on sleep that both Josh and I missed on Friday!
Today, we headed down to one of the many waterfront areas to attend the Stockholm "Affordable Art Fair".  Affordable apparently meant under $1000 and those pieces were few and far between so we just looked.  It was very fun though and we saw several unique pieces that we liked.  We then came him and caught up on stuff around the house, laundry, bills, etc.  I made a big pot of red beans and rice and a pecan pie.  Delicious!
