We wandered around the old town a bit before walking a couple of kilometers out of town to see The Pearl. This is a huge structure built around the city's 4 water storage tanks. The interior houses some reception and convention facilities and is topped by a dome that is the home of a revolving restaurant and a cafe. There is an observation deck around the dome with fantastic views of the city and the surrounding mountains. While we were enjoying the view, the weather changed dramatically, the wind picked up, the temperature dropped and the snow started. So, we took some pictures and then made the cold walk back into town.
We then spent the remainder of the day exploring the many little shops in town and enjoying some hot drinks at the many coffee shops.
We are thrilled to find out that our tour company has been able to reschedule a condensed version of our adventure trip for all day tomorrow so we should get some glacier hiking and ice cave exploring done after all!
