Happy Swedish National Day!

Today, was yet another national holiday in Sweden so we got to sleep in and be lazy.  There are not too many traditions in Sweden that go along with National Day except to just hang out and to have the day off.   The royal family does celebrate in traditional Swedish dress and citizenship celebrations do go on for new Swedes. We also saw the Swedish flag flying everywhere and the vintage car shows that seem to always take place on our street for any reason whatsoever.   For our National Day, we decide to go to the Nationaldagsgaloppen.  This national horse race is free to the public and just housed in a huge open park in the center of Stockholm.  We walked in just in time for the first race and had an up close, perfect view.  Fantastic!

We watched three races with a military parade in between.

Max found a great place to play between the races and an even better place to watch the later races.

Josh and I walked the perimeter of the track between races and enjoyed the crowds of spectators.

After the races, the kids took the bus home while Josh and I stopped off at the huge Smaka på Stockholm event.  The Taste of Stockholm is a big 5 day festival full of food trucks, cooking demonstrations, restaurants and food vendors.  Fantastic!  We plan to go back again...
