It was hard to leave our friends and family once again in the US, but we did have a great trip home and really enjoyed seeing as many friends as we could. Max and I were eager to return to Stockholm, to see Josh again and to see our friends here. It is hard but wonderful to feel at home in two different places. All of our big kids are also back where they belong, so we are back into the Shenk routine.
When we arrived in Stockholm, we were greeted with a beautiful, snowy morning. The snow continued throughout the day yesterday and almost all day today. The temperatures are right at the freezing mark so the snow is heavy and wet. Josh and I took a long walk through the snow yesterday and were coated in snow by the time we returned home. Max and his friends went sledding today and had a great time even though they were soaked through by the time they came home.
The snow is so much more enjoyable when you don't have to worry about driving. They have these handy little sidewalk plows that keep the sidewalks manageable so we just strap on our boots and go. No school closings, traffic jams, or school delays. Pretty great.
I had a group of my close friends over today for lunch. We had a great time catching up on everyone's holiday stories. Apparently, losing your rental car keys on a ski slope in Italy is not the ideal way to start out a Christmas vacation!
Tomorrow morning will be the return of the real world for Max. School starts, and he starts it out with 3 hours of ice skating with his gym class. His least favorite activity...
And, finally, with some photo editing software, I was able to doctor the family Christmas photos that we took without a tripod to include the photographer in each shot and therefore, have everyone present in the picture.
