Making a move like this is a truly humbling experience... When you are used to managing your day to day tasks quite easily and being in control of most aspects of your life, it is very disconcerting to suddenly being unable to accomplish the smallest task with any real expectation of success. So, today, I am feeling on top of the world because I succeeded at everything that I set out to do! Tabitha had too much homework and college essay writing to do but the boys and I set out to visit a museum that I had read was pretty amazing. First, we had to purchase our subway passes which I had tried to do unsuccessfully before. This time, I was able to do it and got three 30 day passes for us! Next, we had to find the right bus stop and then the right bus to get to the museum (subway passes are good on subways, trams, and buses here). We managed this with only a tiny bit of confusion. Boarded the bus and got where we wanted to go! The Vasa Museum was fantastic! It houses a full war ship that sunk just off the coast of Stockholm on it's maiden voyage in 1628! Because it was too narrow and top heavy, it only made it 1500 meters before it sunk. 50 people died, what a catastrophe! Anyway, 333 years later, the brackish water of the Baltic Sea kept it fairly intact and a salvage team was able to raise it, preserve it and restore it with more than 40,000 17th century artifacts inside. Incredible! The boat is 98% intact and the entire thing is in this museum. Amazing! Are the museum, we took a different bus to a different part of the city to a music store that I had found on the Internet. Calvin needed drum sticks and a practice pad before his next drum lesson. We did it, we found it, and we got what we needed! Success! We then found the correct tunnelbana (subway) station and made our way back to our neighborhood! Woo hoo! Next, I wanted to buy a bottle of wine. Not an easy task here... You can only buy 3.25% beer in the grocery store. Everything else has to be purchased in a liquor store which are few and far between and only open from 10-5 Mon-Friday and 10-3 on Saturday! That takes a lot more alcohol planning than I am used to so this was definitely something that I wanted to figure out. I did it! Found the store, found a reasonable bottle of wine and headed home. Whew! The boys and I got home just before the rain started! With a temperature of only 41 degrees, we did not want to get soaked. Good day all and all and the best part will be enjoying a glass of wine tonight with Josh when he gets home from work...
