Walking for a Cause

After a busy week full of kids and work, Josh and I took off for Chicago on Friday afternoon.  We met 4 of my cousins there so that the five of us women could walk in the Avon39 to find a cure for Breast Cancer.  We had all raised over $1800 to allow us to participate and had all been training at various levels.  My cousin, Vicki, was just 8 weeks out from her last surgery in her own battle against breast cancer so we were more than happy to support her.  Josh acted as our own personal team support crew and even walked 6 or 7 miles with us each day.

We joined the other 1800 walkers bright and early on Saturday morning and set out on our walk.  We completed 26.2 miles on Saturday and then another 13.1 on Sunday.  We were slow at times and some struggled more than others but we stuck together and all five of us crossed the finish line.  What a great sense of accomplishment!  Especially since the event raised more than 4.1 million dollars toward cancer treatment and research!  I really enjoyed getting to spend this time with my cousins!
While we were away, Calvin worked some long hours at his new job at the local water park while Max and Quincy hung out.  On Saturday, Quincy took Max to the lake and taught him how to do some stand up paddle boarding.  They both had a great time and Max LOVED it!  He is now campaigning for us to buy a paddle board.  Max also spent the night at a friend's house for a birthday party and had a great time with pizza, video games and fun.  It is now time for summer cross country training to begin though so the lazy days are already over!
