After spending last week in a dust bowl without a working kitchen while we had remodeling done to our house, we were more than ready to get out and go somewhere.
On Saturday afternoon, after mowing the grass and installing a new kitchen sink, we hit the road. We were headed toward Chicago for a college visit for Calvin at Northwestern but we made a few stops along the way. Our first stop was in southern Michigan to see Quincy for the first time since mid June! He is doing great at his job as a camp counselor and proudly showed us his beach and dock where he is instructing kids in canoeing and sailing. He loves it all!
After saying our good-byes and letting Quincy get back to "his kids", we drove on to Lake Michigan. On Sunday morning, we headed straight to the Indiana Dunes National Park where we spent many hours on the beach and hiking on the dunes. Hot and fun!
Hot, sweaty, sunburnt, and sandy, we arrived in Chicago in the late afternoon on Sunday. Josh and I got pizza for the kids before we met up with Josh's college friend, Marc, for an evening of eating and reminiscing. Always fun!
On Monday morning, we spent several hours on Northwestern's campus for a tour and information session before starting the long drive home. We dropped Max off with my parents along the way so that he could do some summer bonding.
On Tuesday morning, the work continued on our house while I left for my first day of work at my new job! As Director of marketing for a local rehab center, I am challenging myself with a new career. It is all good so far at my beautiful new facility!
And, coming home to some surprise congratulatory flowers from Josh, certainly reminded me of how lucky I truly am!
